Everything on this page is processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
What this tool does
Numbering a pasted list, a code snippet for a tutorial, or a script for a table read is mostly a matter of format: where the counting starts, how many digits to pad to, and what sits between the number and the text. This tool applies that format to every line locally, and can also reverse it, stripping a matching numeric prefix back off so a numbered list can be pasted somewhere else as plain text again.
How to use it
- Paste or type your text into the input box.
- Set the start number, zero-padding, separator and whether to skip blank lines.
- Switch to "Remove numbers" to strip a matching prefix back off instead.
Privacy
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never uploaded, stored or shared — closing the tab removes it.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my text uploaded anywhere?
- No. Numbering happens in JavaScript running in the page, so nothing you paste ever leaves your device.
- Can I skip numbering blank lines?
- Yes. Turn on "Skip blank lines" and empty lines are left untouched while the counter keeps advancing only on lines with content.
- How does removing numbers work?
- It matches a leading number followed by the same separator you have set and strips it, so use the separator that matches what was added.
