What this tool does
This word counter reports whitespace-delimited words, Unicode characters, punctuation-delimited sentences, blank-line paragraphs, lines and estimated reading time at 200 words per minute. It uses simple browser rules rather than language-aware CJK or Thai segmentation. It does not check grammar, keyword density, readability or plagiarism, and your text is not uploaded or stored.

- What counts as a word?
- The tool counts non-empty pieces separated by whitespace. This simple rule can differ from word processors and does not segment continuous CJK or Thai text.
- Are spaces and punctuation included in the character count?
- Yes. The Unicode character total includes spaces and punctuation. Sentence counting separately uses terminal punctuation as an approximation.
- How is reading time calculated?
- Estimated reading time uses 200 whitespace-delimited words per minute. It is a guide, since language, difficulty and individual speed vary.
- Why can the count differ from Microsoft Word or Google Docs?
- Applications use different rules for hyphens, symbols, paragraphs and language boundaries. This tool follows the simple rules described on this page.
- Is my pasted text uploaded or stored?
- No. The text and statistics remain in the current browser tab, so LocalTools does not receive or save the content.
