AVIF Converter
Convert images to AVIF locally in your browser
Choose a PNG, JPG or WebP image and export an AVIF copy with a quality slider. Encoding happens in your browser, so the file is never uploaded.

What this tool does
AVIF can make photographic images much smaller than older web formats while keeping good visual quality, but browser support for writing AVIF is still uneven. This tool draws your image to a canvas and asks your own browser to encode AVIF locally. If the browser cannot write AVIF, it reports that clearly instead of uploading the image elsewhere.
How to use it
- Choose an image file from your device.
- Keep AVIF selected and adjust quality if needed.
- Download the converted image when your browser finishes encoding it.
Privacy
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never uploaded, stored or shared — closing the tab removes it.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my image uploaded for AVIF conversion?
- No. Decoding and encoding run in your browser with the canvas API.
- Why does AVIF fail in some browsers?
- Some browsers can display AVIF but cannot export it from a canvas. In that case the tool shows an unsupported-format message.
- Does AVIF keep transparency?
- AVIF can keep transparency when the browser encoder supports it. Check the preview before using the download.
