Local Notepad
A scratchpad that saves to your browser, never to a server
Write notes that autosave to your browser's local storage as you type, so they are still there next time you open this page on the same device and browser.
Notes save to this browser's local storage only; they are never uploaded.
Everything on this page is processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
What this tool does
Every keystroke is saved to your browser's localStorage a moment after you stop typing, and reloaded automatically the next time you open this page in the same browser on the same device. Nothing is sent to a server, so the note never leaves your device, but it also never syncs to another device or browser and can be lost if you clear your browser's site data.
How to use it
- Start typing; your note saves automatically a moment after you pause.
- Come back to this page later in the same browser to find it still there.
- Use Download to save a copy as a .txt file, or Clear to erase it.
Privacy
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never uploaded, stored or shared — closing the tab removes it.
Frequently asked questions
- Where is my note stored?
- In your browser's localStorage for this site, on this device only. It is never uploaded or sent to a server.
- Will my note be there if I open this page on my phone?
- No. localStorage is specific to one browser on one device, so a note saved on a computer will not appear on a phone or in a different browser.
- What happens if I clear my browser data?
- The note is deleted along with the rest of that browser's local storage for this site, so download a copy first if you want to keep it.
