What this tool does
The calculator divides the trip distance by the fuel efficiency to find how much fuel is needed, then multiplies that by the price per fuel unit for the total cost. It works with any consistent unit system, whether that is miles and gallons or kilometers and liters, as long as the same units are used for distance, efficiency and price.

Frequently asked questions
- Which units should I use?
- Any consistent set works: miles with miles-per-gallon and a price per gallon, or kilometers with kilometers-per-liter and a price per liter. Mixing unit systems gives a wrong result.
- How is fuel efficiency entered?
- As distance per unit of fuel, for example 32 miles per gallon or 14 kilometers per liter. If you only know consumption as fuel per distance, such as liters per 100 kilometers, convert it first: efficiency = 100 / consumption.
- Does this account for fuel price changes or traffic?
- No, it is a straight-line estimate from the numbers you enter. For a more accurate trip cost, use current local fuel prices and your vehicle's real-world efficiency.
