PDF to Text

System ideaMissing a tool?

Extract selectable text from a PDF, page by page, locally

Extract the text layer from a PDF, one page at a time or across a page range you choose, entirely in your browser. Copy the result or download it as a plain text file.

No file selected.

Choose a PDF file to extract its text.

Extraction only works on PDFs that already contain real text. Scanned pages saved as images have no text layer and need OCR, which this tool does not do. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened here either.

What this tool does

This tool opens your PDF with a browser-based PDF engine and reads the text layer already embedded in each selected page, joining it into one plain-text result with an optional separator between pages. Nothing is uploaded: the file is opened and read entirely on your device. It only recovers text that is already stored as text in the PDF — it does not perform OCR, so scanned pages saved as images will come back empty.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF file from your device.
  2. Optionally enter which pages to extract, and choose whether to insert a separator between pages.
  3. Press Extract text, then copy the result or download it as a .txt file.

Privacy

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input is never uploaded, stored or shared — closing the tab removes it.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to extract its text?
No. The file is opened and its text layer is read entirely in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.
Why is the result empty for some pages?
Those pages likely have no text layer — usually because they are scanned images rather than typed or generated text. This tool reads existing text; it does not recognize text in images (OCR).
Can I extract text from a password-protected PDF?
No. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened by this tool.
