Speed is measured in words per minute, where one word counts as 5 correctly typed characters. Only characters typed before the timer ends or the sample is finished are counted.

What this tool does

Frequently asked questions
- How is words per minute calculated?
- One word is counted as 5 correctly typed characters, matched against the sample text position by position. That character count is divided by the minutes elapsed to give words per minute.
- What counts toward accuracy?
- Accuracy is the share of everything you typed that matched the sample text at the same position, as a percentage.
- Is my typing sent anywhere?
- No. The timer, the comparison against the sample text and the score are all computed in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded.
