Wallpaper Calculator
Work out how many rolls of wallpaper you need
Enter the wall area to cover and the width and length of one roll to estimate how many rolls to buy.
Rolls to buy7
Roll width and length must use the same length unit, and the wall area must use that unit squared. The roll count is rounded up after adding waste.

What this tool does
The calculator multiplies roll width by roll length to get the coverage of one roll, adds your waste percentage for pattern matching and trimming to the wall area, then divides and rounds up, since wallpaper is sold in whole rolls.
How to use it
- Enter the total wall area to cover.

Frequently asked questions
- What waste percentage should I use?
- 10% suits a plain wallpaper on a simple wall. Large pattern repeats, which need extra trimming to align, often need 15 to 20% or more.
- How do I find roll width and length?
- Both are printed on the roll's label or packaging, commonly in meters or feet; standard rolls are often about 0.53 m wide and 10 m long.
- Does this account for the pattern repeat directly?
- No, the pattern repeat is folded into the waste percentage; a larger repeat needs a higher percentage since more of each roll is trimmed away to keep the pattern aligned between strips.
